Utah Jazz

Pass me the Ball

PSA: Not really NSL related**

I found it super interesting reading about the real life Utah Jazz, (not my promised land of rookies) and the issues between the Stifle tower and Donny Mitchell as of late. These issues have been spoken about for sometime, however a really alarming stat popped up the other day regarding the number of passes Mitchell give Gobert. 2 passes per game...

The Jazz hold the number one rated offence in the league, and Mitchell and Gobert are arguably the best pick and roll combo in the league also, so this stat is absolutely 'wild' as Mitchell put it himself.

To put this into perspective, all three of the bucks stars pass each other the ball around 10 times. That is a lot more passes, however somehow the Jazz are rolling offensively, maybe they have something that works... maybe they dont.

As the tensions continue to simmer, it looks inevitable that if the Jazz do not progress deep into the playoff picture this year, a break up is on the cards. The last roll of the dice, and possible for Coach Quinn too. My Utah boys however, are thrilled to be in the hunt for a top three pick in this years draft, so the ownership team are thrilled with how the GM are running thinks in the NSL.

The interesting part in all this for me, is the idea of passing and how critical ball movement is in modern day basketball, and yet when I watch these 2k simulations I want to bash my head against a wall because there is only so much isolation at the top of the key and a contested jumper I can take. Move the damn ball boys.

Maybe it is because we suck, or maybe 2k will never be able to emulate a seamless, crisp game of basketball on the console.

Good luck to all teams in the playoff/championship hunt - looking forward to joining you in about 5 years.
