Since returning sooner than expected from his long injury, Jayson Tatum has hit the ground running and is making up for lost time.
The Celtics star tore his Achilles last year and it was
initially believed that he would miss this entire season. Little did we know
that wolverines blood runs in his veins and he has super healing abilities.
Since returning to the court and the starting lineup Tatum
has not missed a beat and over the 13 games he has played is averaging just
under 38 minutes per game.
In those minutes he is putting up maybe the best numbers of
his career. So far he is averaging over 42 points per game on 53 precent from
the field and 44 percent from three point. Free throws seem a bit low at 77
percent, which if he can get them up he'd be on his way to joining the 50/40/90
club, albeit in a small sample size.
Tatum is also contributing elsewhere, grabbing almost 9
rebounds per game and dishing out almost 7 assists. His defensive numbers are also
solid.
These numbers are great, but they are also contributing to
winnings basketball, as Boston have won eight out of their last eleven and are
currently on a five game winning streak which is by fair their best of this
down season.
The level of play by Tatum has not been a surprise as he is
a premier player in the league. The surprising thing is how quickly he as
returned to that premier level. It only speaks to his commitment and
determination with his rehab and drive to get back on the court and give
everything to his team mates and fans.
Although Boston will finish towards the bottom end of the ladder this year, We will be eagerly looking forward to next season where our stars will all hopefully be healthy.
