ROOKIE OF THE WEEK WATCH - Week 14

Amari Williams
PER 12.85
Eastern 0-4
Williams has been starting and playing his role perfectly for the Raptors as they look to keep the losing streak going to the end of the season. 11 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 1.5 blocks per game last week is excellent production from a numbers stand point for the rookie big man thrust into a starting role, but a -18.8 is a big deficit.
Noah Penda
PER 15.50
Eastern 0-4
Penda moved back to the bench this week and 5 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and a block per game was the result, which was just about what he was doing in starters minutes. This was done in 14 minutes a night though and on 58/43/60 shooting splits, so the kid has benefitted from the starting experience, bringing the same energy to the bench role. He won't win this week, but it was nice to see.
Sion James
PER 13.64
Eastern 1-3
James has had some good notes this year entering the rotation early on which isn't always the case for a 2nd round rookie on a highly contending team, but he's held down his role and 14 minutes a night this past week again shows that. He only scored 5 points a game and 2.5 rebounds with not much else, but he shot it 57/50 from the field and deep and has looked like a good role guy off the bench.
Ace Bailey
PER 13.95
Eastern 2-2
Bailey came off the bench this week for the first time all season and his numbers were severely muted because of it. 7 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal per game in 18 minutes a night off the bench and his efficiency was through the floor too at 34/26 shooting splits. He won't be the winner this week.
Daniss Jenkins
PER 16.14
Eastern 2-2
Henkins has had an up and down season as a break out 2way guy, but this past week he was marginally better starting all 4 games again. 30 minutes a night saw 14 points, 3 rebounds, 7.5 assists and a steal and block per game on 36/34/100 shooting splits, showing he still has some ways to go at least in 2k before he's really arrived, but he's in the right direction on a weekly basis.
Khaman Maluach
PER 14.08
Western 2-3
Maluach is just about pipping Flagg for ROTY by now, but this past week will not help him in the slightest. He wasn't bad, but 11 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks are all relatively pedestrian compared to what he has been putting up other weeks, and so he's probably once again lost a little ground.
Egor Demin
PER 20.58
Western 3-2
Demin keeps on keeping on for the Mavs and this past week he poured in 18 points on 43/30/80 shooting, with less than a turnover a game, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Also, 1.4 blocks per game which is elite for a PG! Using his size well. He's been starting every game this year and anchoring the lead guard role, time for some reward?
Asa Newell
PER 16.41
Western 3-2
Newell keeps on powering the Warriors offence whom some call "a complete devoid of offensive talent" line up, as this past week he poured in 17 points on 60/89/71 splits as he kept getting left open from deep. 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1.6 steals and a block per game too, and the Warriors have definitely found a big man to fit that stretch role that many covet.
Derik Queen
PER 16.80
Western 3-1
Queen has had an up and down season as a rookie coming screaming out of the gates to get some big ratings bumps, only to then slow down again as the rookie wall and the rest of the league cottoned on. This week he was starting again and 10 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and a block show that he's going to be a multi-faceted big man going forward as he develops, as he only did this in 26 minutes a night, too.
Yanic Konan Niederhauser
PER 22.85
Western 4-0
YKN has been thrust into a bench role in LA with the news that Jusuf Nurkic is to miss the rest of the season (shock horror) and he's filling in admirably. In 15 minutes last week, he scored 9 points a night with 7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per game, which is about as much as any big man off the bench not named DeAndre Ayton. The kid looking like a plus gain for the Lakers.
