ROOKIE OF THE WEEK WATCH - Week 17

Jaden Ivey
Ivey continued on as a starter this week and put up a really respectable 11-4-3 from the point which is just scratching the surface you’d imagine. He didn’t hit from deep though and the Jazz still struggled so there’s room to grow. He won’t win this award this week but he should get one eventually.
Mark Williams
Mark Williams is starting and flashing his potential. 8 points and 12 rebounds you take every day of the week and the. Throw in 3.3 blocks per game and you have a bonifide big man protecting the rim and manning the middle. This is a really tough statline to beat.
Keegan Murray
Keegan started for the first time all year this past week and smashed out 14/6/6 as a statline which is just what the team needed. He added a steal per game too to that statline and showed what he might be able to do going forward as an All Rookie level guy in the NBA.
Walker Kessler
Walker has been starting now that Capela is gone and Plumlee is on the re-decline after his NBA trade, and he responded this past week with 8.5 points, 13 rebounds, a steal and 2 blocks while also shooting 67% from deep which isn’t a usual part of his game. The future looks bright for Kessler.
Nikola Jovic
PER 20.97
Eastern 2-2
Jovic is only getting 10 minutes a night but it’s nice to see him get some recognition for a solid week at 6-2-1 in that time. He has alot of room to grow and time to do it in Dallas though so he’s not expected to put up numbers yet.
Jalen Duren
PER 25.39
Eastern 4-0
Duren was an absolute beast this past week further solidifying his claim to rookie of the year. 16 points and 22 rebounds, massive! From a rookie! And 2 blocks per game too. Can you say, Andre Drummond of the future? Or even of the now? Put him at PF.
Andrew Nembhard
PER 12.61
Western 1-3
Nembhard did t get the memo that you needed to be big to be nominated and 8 points and 3 assists isn’t going to get noticed compared to the others, but that’s some really solid bench PG play from this rookie in 17 minutes and he shot it 63% from deep and 93% from the line which is some nice steady shooting.
Jabari Smith Jr.
PER 16.22
Western 2-2
Jabari smashed out 36 minutes this week and played like a seasoned vet. He shot 56/36/69 on the week and dropped a massive double double at 14 points 12 rebounds with 2 steals and 2 blocks per game on top. He’s got his work cut out with Duren’s statline this week but maybe cause the engine doesn’t suit his type as much?
Paolo Banchero
PER 22.69
Western 2-2
Paolo keeps on keeping on. His star has faded from the crazy early season numbers but who is arguing with 11/11/3 from a rookie PF when he has ball needy scorers around him anyway? He shot it 50% from deep also giving some nice spacing and despite not troubling the defensive stats he balled out.
Ochai Agbaji
PER 12.84
Western 2-2
Agbaji had a really nice showing this week. He shot it a little better than the season at 38% and played just a minute extra, but he poured in 10.8 points in 13 minutes a night compared to the usual 5.8 points. He’s really not going to get noticed with these other studs this week but it’s a really nice output off the bench for the Magic.
