ROOKIE OF THE WEEK WATCH - Week 1

Kai Jones
Kai Jones, from the Bahamas i believe was scouted as a raw, uber athletic big man.
We all know sometimes it takes the big guys some time to put it together.
But during the draft process, the summer league and in this early stage of the season he has already showed some jaw dropping flashes.

Although he hasnt taken any three points attempts so far, that is the excitement with him, that he will one day be able to stretch the floor. Pairing that with his rim running and athletics gifts makes him quite the prospect.

He is getting a little run with the rebuilding Jazz, but he wasnt expected to make to big of a splash early, which is whats happening.
Jalen Green
The number 2 pick, Green has come out the gate with a green light!
The report on Green was that he could one day be the league leader in scoring and that is what he has come out doing.
He is averaging 16 points per game in week 1, but unfortunately on poor percentages from the field.
There is always that adjustment period, he will get them to a higher number and up his averages.
The 3 assists are solid, but isnt contributing much elsewhere.
I am sure the GM is very excited to watch the young high flyer progress.
Brandon Boston Jr
BBJ, potential sleeper pick here, who going into college was highly recruited but had a bit of a down year.
Has all the size and potential to be a nice scoring option, so could be a home run 2nd round pick.

On a fairly loaded Philly team, it was a safe bet that Boston Jr was never going to have a huge role to start off the year, but its good for him to get some minutes.
With the unfortunate Lebron injury, perhaps that means a bit more minutes for the young fella.
Alperen Sengun
PER 22.92
Eastern 1-3
My boy! i love watching him, plays with a different kind of flare than most in the league. A unique type of talent.
He is a lot more competent defensively than scouts thought, and is often holding down the defence for the side.
Just get more reps under the belt and he will be making some pretty nice plays and pretty nice stat lines on the regular.
Safe to say he wont win rookie of the week, but thats fine with me. The former Turkish league MVP is still adjusting to the new league.
Corey Kispert
PER 20.43
Eastern 1-3
Kispert, who almost had the perfect collegiate season came in to the league, scouted as one of the more NBA ready players. A little on the older side compared to the 19 year olds, but came in with a ready long range jump shot and an NBA body.

He has been getting decent minutes with the Clippers and I am sure he has been told by Giannas, "stand in the corner and hit the three when i get it to you".
Kispert is putting up 5 threes per game in week 1 and hit 40% of them, which is a great start and he appears to be doing what his team needs him to.

the 3 assists is nice, showing that he is capable of some play making too. Over all a real solid start to his professional career.
Moses Moody
PER 6.48
Eastern 1-3
Moses Moody, another one of my boys.
again he isnt anywhere near winning this weekly award, but its nice to see his name mentioned.

He just needs to keep progressing, as one of of the younger rookies it was never going to be instant, and he was never going to have the reigns out of the gate.

He had been up and down from the G league just getting as many minutes played as he can.
Scottie Barnes
PER 17.63
Eastern 4-0
Barnes, like Mobley might be looking to take some scalps. from the first tip he has played like a seasoned vet. He looks calm and composed on the offensive end, making plenty of plays for others and is an absolute terror on the defensive end.

I dont think his averages do him justice, but there have been nothing but great signs from Scottie and i know the Wolves GM Ethan is over the moon with Barnes.
He seems like the kind of guy whose numbers will just constantly increase as his career progresses until he is putting up amazing numbers across the board.

Plenty to like and plenty to still look forward to.
Evan Mobley
PER 26.11
Eastern 4-0
Mobley has had a great start to the season, perhaps he has a bit of a chip on his shoulder about two people being drafted in front of him!
Obviously its early days, but he is looking one of the best rookies at this stage.
Speaking from personal experience, Daz is not looking to move Mobley, which although annoying for the rest of us, completely understandable.

He has started off the year doing a bit of everything and holding it down on the defensive end. Milwaukee have had a great start to the year and thats without their star in Zion.
Maybe there is a new sheriff in town.
Trey Murphy III
PER 13.27
Western 1-3
Trey Murphy the Third showed at the NBA summer league after being drafted by the clippers.
There are plenty of highly capable players ahead of him, so his playing time was never expected to be high this early in the season or at all for that matter.

Although in his limited minutes he is still giving the coach something to think about. shooting 50% from 3 is real nice, on two and a half attempts.
the averages of 7 points, 4 rebounds and almost 2 assists without recording a single turnover is a really good sign.
NahShon Hyland
PER 10.91
Western 2-2
Nickamed 'Bones' because of his slender frame, which has not held him back at all to start the year.
He has been coming off the bench and it appears he is running the 2nd unit.
He is putting up over 11 points and over 4 assists per game in roughly 20 minutes.
Amazing production from the scouted sharp shooter.
I should mention that he is also shooting 55% from deep.
I am sure the nuggets fans are really happy with him so far and eager to see him develop and possibly force the coaches hand into giving him a bigger role.
